Snow Queen or how to appreciate winter running!

I know, last post I was the Princess of Darkness and now I’m a Snow Queen!!! See, I have this thing where I really wish I was royalty so I give myself all kind of royal titles 🙂

Seriously, as you know, I live in Montreal in Quebec which is in Canada land of the snowbirds! So yeah, we get snow and cold! As you also know, I’m a runner. So yeah basically, I run outside in the snow with the ice and the cold and truthfully I love it!!!

I must admit that my first winter I panicked and went and splurged on a big treadmill at the first sight of snow. I tought I’d fall and hurt myself. But guess what? The treadmill has been gathering dust and is being used in EXTREME weather conditions hot or cold!

I fell in love with running outside during winter. I feel like the Yeti when I come back from my run. I feel invincible. I feel incredible!

BUT:

A few rules must be obeyed to run during those Canadian winter months!

1. Layers you will wear
2. Merino wool socks you will cherish
3. Your head and/or ears cover you must
4. Shorten your stride or slip and fall you will
5. Under your jacket your hydration will be hidden
And finally my favorite

6. Absolutely frozen your butt will be!!!

Go on! Enjoy winter and lace up!

Until then,
Faith, trust and pixie dust

PS: if anyone at my beloved SparkleSkirts is reading this, I would pay big money to be your tester for a butt toasting skirt prototype! Ha!

Princess of darkness! Or my Knuckle Lights review!

No, do not get any ideas! I haven’t been adopted by Ozzy Osborne! I’m talking about running in the dark! I love running in the dark, but like every other runner, I want to be seen. That’s why I bought those:

Knuckle Lights! Let me tell you I LOOOOOOVE THEM!!!! They are fantastic. You wear them on your knuckles, duuuhhhh!!! Serioulsly, the cool thing is that you don’t even feel them and they don’t move! They stay put and they are light (no pun intended)

They are so bright that cars actually think it’s another car coming on a street corner but it’s just plain ol’ me! See how bright they are:

I bought mine at Running Room but their websites have awesome colors (pink.. cough cough)! Mine are black but like my mom said, who cares what color they are, you’re running in the dark princess! Hence my new title, Princess of darkness! All hail the new princess! Think Disney has a spot for me?

Until then, faith, trust and pixie dust!

Smile! (or the art of race photos) and my theory on those…

I’ve read it on lots of tweets, facebook and blog posts: My race photos suck!

For me, it seems, spotting the race photographers is something very easy to do.

Exhibit a :

yours truly finishing her first ever 10k at the Rock’n Roll Montreal Marathon in 2012.

You can’t seem to spot them? I think I have the answer… YOU ARE GOING TOO FAST!!!! No, seriously… You see, I’m a back of the pack runner. When I get to the photographers, the crowd is sparse and they are easy to spot with their usually flashy yellow vest. I must admit, I love race pictures. I’m sure you’ve seen this

I’m one of those. I’m a goofy girl who likes to smile and have memories.

Those were all taken during the Dumbo Double Dare challenge in Disneyland in September 2013. It was my first Disney race and I went all out! I have many more from where it came from but I think that about sums it all!

Wait! I’m not done, last May, I did the 10k at the Ottawa Marathon Weekend. While my faster friends had 1 or 2 pictures taken during the race, for my part I had 49… yes you read right, 49!!!

This just proves my theory… Be slower and your pictures will be wonderfull!

Apocalypse Run 5k in Montreal recap

image

On saturday October 26th, I ran the first edition of the Apocalypse run in Montreal. This race was Halloween themed. There also was a 10k. I decided to do the 5k. Sometimes the first edition of a race  is not quite perfect but with this one, there simply was nothing to say!!

There were zombies  on the course but they didn’t touch us. There also was music, lighting  and smoke all the way through the distance.  The medal was awesome too! Overall this is a great race and I have to do it again next year!
